I also found a blog post here and a follow-up by the same person. Having those ports open did not make a difference at all. Quickbooks has some guidance here on how to configure the firewall basically open the below ports. Windows Firewall - The firewall has to be disabled. I had to have ALL of these things setup, if any of these steps were turned off or changed, it wouldn't work. Here is my list of things I had to do to get multi-user mode working using their app on our File Server. Our file server is running Server 2012 R2.
So, like most reasonable businesses, we used a server. Additionally, we work with a lot of client provided Quickbooks files, so we use multiple versions as well. We have too many people in and out of the office and not enough licenses to really have a "dedicated computer" for hosting multi-user mode. I'm hoping at least one bit of this may help you (it certainly didn't help us), otherwise I've really wasted a LOT of time over the last few weeks. I GOT IT TO WORK, but we just gave up because at the end of the day it was too cumbersome. OMFG, I have spent nearly 24 hours over the last two weeks trying to get multi-user mode working in our office.
